2012 Member of the Year - Lou Dusablon

When Lucien Dusablon attended his first Mended Hearts meeting in October, 2010, Mended Hearts chapter 338  had no idea how much he would impact our chapter.  Lucien was interested in all that we did.  From his first meeting to the present, Lucien has attended all meetings.  When he suffered from a bout of what proved to be temporary blindness recently, he still attended.
Within less than a year, Lucien was appointed vice-president.  When asked to take on a public relations type perspective, he rose to the occasion.  Soon Lou could be found personally delivering newsletters and meeting notices to local high rises for seniors and to the offices of    area cardiac physicians.
Mended Hearts 338 has a brochure announcing who we are and our purpose.  Lucien always carries some around to distribute to those he meets.  He has delivered them to all his personal physicians.  It was his idea to add them to the Path and Cath packs.
When a visitor training was offered, both he and his wife attended.  He then proceeded to meet the requirements that our hospital has set forth for volunteers.  After meeting hospital requirements, Lou began visiting patients in their rooms.  After our lengthy absence in the cath lab, Lou has begun visiting the cath lab patients.  Lou then thought it would be a good idea to add our speaker schedule to the packets.  He is always striving for new ways to improve what we do.  Lou is now our visiting chairperson.  He visits the hospital at least three times  per week.  He visits more often as needed.  His goal is to increase the number of visitors from our chapter.
Mended Hearts 338 sponsors a team for the annual Start Heart Walk.  Lou participated in his first Start Heart Walk this spring.   With encouragement from the team, he even surpassed his walking goal, which was an inspiration for all.
Lou always adds to the overall positive spirit of our meetings.  He causes us to have many hearty laughs during the course of an evening.
When told that the board meets to decide who will engage the guest speakers for various months, Lou took it upon himself to find speakers for this entire year before the board even met.
Our chapter always sells red dress pins for the AHA Red Dress Event.  Lou manned the table at the Landmark Heart Center for hours.

Lou has not been afraid to take on any duties asked of him.  He is a people person who truly loves his visiting role at Landmark Hospital.  He also offers his volunteer services at the cardiac rehab center associated with our hospital.  The awards committee can think of no person better suited to be the Mended Heart of the year than Lucien Dusablon.
